Aishwarya Rai Bachchan will no longer be part of the Hollywood venture, Racing the Monsoon. Michael Douglas, who was in the city yesterday, is planning to produce the film with Percept Picture Company’s Shailendra Singh.

Catherine Zeta-Jones will now play the female lead. Says an insider, “Douglas had met Aishwarya, sometime ago. The two of them had a long discussion and Aishwarya had even been cast in the film. But later, she was replaced and Zeta stepped in.”

India Times says, “The film has global appeal. Since Zeta has a lot more global appeal than Aishwarya, she was roped in.”

We contacted, Aishwarya’s secretary Hari Singh said, “ There are many details which I am not aware of. So, I will not be able to tell you about Aishwarya’s status on Racing the Monsoon. It will be great if you can send a text message to her enquring about the film.”

India Times sent a text message to Aishwarya but she didn’t revert. They heard, Racing the Monsoon, will feature the film’s producer, Douglas, in a double role. It’s an action adventure that tells the story of a diamond heist that takes place on board an Indian train.

Douglas’ production company, Further Films, and Indian production house Percept Picture Company (PPC), which is co-run by Shailendra Singh — a friend of Douglas, will finance the film.

Steve Carr (Daddy Day Care, Doctor Doolittle 2) will direct the film.
