This gorgeous granddaughter of Raj Kapoor was the first girl from Kapoor khandan to prove that she is the chip of the same block. After proving her acting prowess with films like Zubeidaa and Fiza – in search of her brother and giving hits like Biwi no.1 and Dil To Pagal Hai Karisma bid adieu to Bollywood and got married to childhood buddy Sanjay Kapur. As she leaves for Singapore to celebrate “a very intimate” birthday, Karisma shares her happiness with NT.

Your birthday’s on June 25. So, what’re the plans for the big day?

Nothing too elaborate. My husband has some work in Singapore. So, my daughter Samaira and I are also going along with him to celebrate a very intimate birthday. But, I’ll be missing my parents and sister Kareena on my birthday. Bebo’s so busy these days. She recently spent two days with us and went back to the US for one of her shoots. But, she’s doing so well and we understand that it’s busy days ahead for her.

One special birthday of yours spent with Kareena that you fondly remember and what’s the gift that you are expecting from her?

Oh, there have been so many warm moments. Kareena and I’ve always shared a very special bond and every moment spent with her turned out to be great. She’s my baby! To be honest, I don’t expect anything from anyone. And Kareena’s already given me the most precious gift of selfless, unconditional love. I couldn’t have asked for more.

Kareena Kapoor has been shooting round the clock. First it was for Sohail Khan’s Main Aur Mrs Khanna in Australia, thereafter she headed to Bangkok for IIFA in and then to Pattaya for Golmaal Returns.

But the actress, who is devoted to her niece, Samaira Kapur (sister Karisma and brother-in-law Sanjay’s daughter), flew in from for three days to spend three days with her.

Says Kareena, “I have been in Australia shooting for MAMK since over a month. After IIFA, I went to Phuket for the shooting of Golmaal Returns and Head & Shoulders ad. I missed Samaira and Lolo (her sister, Karisma) terribly so I flew all the way back to Mumbai for two days on June 17 to see my niece and sis. I was dying to give Samaira a hug and cuddle. Mom (Babita) was there in Melbourne with me but I haven’t seen Sam and Lolo in a long time.”

How sweet. We want glamorous aunties who dotes on us too. Except we are a little bit too old for that.

We love to imitate superstars and their fashionable styles onscreen. But the credit goes to the people, who design their looks. Shiraz Siddique, 28, is one such costume designer, who made Shah Rukh Khan look good in Chak De! India and Riteish Deshmukh look good in Dhamaal.

Nithya Ramani asked Shiraz to list his favourite star outfits:
Riteish Deshmukh

I have designed all of his costumes for Dhamaal. Initially, I designed his outfits for a photo shoot. He liked the outfits so much that he wore them for the music launch of Dhamaal on the same day. He also asked me to do his costumes for his other films as well.

I have designed some of his outfits in Cash, Heyy Babyy, De Taali and his new film with David Dhawan.

I designed Riteish’s outfit for the recent IIFA awards too. He wore a steal blue bandgala jacket.

Shah Rukh Khan

I designed SRK’s outfits in Chak De! India. His outfits were very simple but that makes it the toughest. I also styled his outfits for his ads like Airtel, Belmonte and Dish TV.

I loved working with him and Farah Khan in Om Shanti Om. That was my best experience with him so fararah is very particular about what she wants, and who does her costumes. She likes bright colours. We had to design the outfits according to the 1970s and 1980s styles. I learnt a lot during that time.

Abhishek Bachchan

I love Abhishek’s outfit in Laaga Chunari Mein Daag. It is a simple white shirt with a black velvet waist coat. It suited him so well that the photograph was used for the film’s promotions.

Karan Johar

I started my career with Karan Johar. I have always wanted to be a costume designer but my mother wanted me to become a director when she realised I was inclined towards films. I assisted Karan as a junior assistant director during Kabhi Kushi Kabhie Gham.

Karan saw my interest towards costumes and designing and asked me to be the costume coordinator for Kal Ho Naa No and Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna. I styled Karan in the second season of Koffee with Karan. I also designed for the guests, who came for the show. Karan Johar looks the best in a black suit with a sheath of black shiny sequences in the collar. I think he is the best dressed man in the film industry.

I have never designed for Urmila Matondkar; that remains my dream. I watched Rangeela eight times and I fell in love with Urmila. I would like to design a white georgette or chiffon sari for her, and my other favourite actress, Karisma Kapoor. There is no outfit as beautiful as a sari for a woman.

The Bachchans and the Kapoors – the two leading families of Bollywood – have maintained a distance ever since Karisma and Abhishek’s engagement broke off several years ago. But to everyone’s surprise, Randhir and Rajeev Kapoor walked the green carpet at the premiere of ‘Sarkar Raj’ here.
Directed by Ram Gopal Varma, the film starring Amitabh, Abhishek and Aishwarya Rai, had its world premiere Friday evening at the Ninth International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Awards, of which the Big B is the brand ambassador. While Jaya Bachchan extended a warm welcome to Randhir, Kareena is set to perform at the IIFA awards night.

The Bachchans, however, were the cynosure of all eyes at the Paragon Cineplex, where the movie was screened as part of the three-day IIFA extravaganza that kicked off here Friday.Other Indian stars at the premiere included Shabana Azmi, Javed Akhtar, David Dhawan, Zayed Khan, veteran actress Mumtaz and Neil Nitin Mukesh.

Who would have thought, years later (karishma) would have been engaged to Abhishek but then got called off. Then another one (rani) came along and had the best onscreen and offscreen chemistry with Abhishek. Lastly, the other ONE (AISHWARYA) married Abhishek in the end.

It’s like a cycle, don’t you think?

Ranbir Kapoor declined to be a part of the Bachchans unforgettable tour for Karishma Kapoor. It is rumored that he cannot forget and forgive the Bachchans for ditching his cousin sister, Karishma Kapoor. Abhishek and Karishma’s relationship broke off after engagement and thereafter she married hurriedly to a divorcee Sanjay Kapoor.

The incident had created a barrier between the Bachchans and the Kapoors. Though today both Abhishek and Karishma are leading a happy married life with their respective partners, the Kapoor family is still not able to get out of the trauma. In public, Ranbir has given a different reason for his rejection. To him, he is only one film old and has only few songs to his credit and he is least interested to dance on his friend’s hit numbers.

He assures that he will perform live shows only after the release of his next film Bachna Ae Haseena as it has a good dance numbers. Bipasha Basu, Riteish Deshmukh, Akshay Kumar, Saif Ali Khan are expected to be a part of the Bachchans Unforgettable tour.
