After the success of ‘Partner’, the ‘jodi no 1′ of comedy, actor Govinda and director David Dhawan, will again try to tickle the funny bones of the viewers with ‘Do Knot Disturb’.Two former beauty queens — Sushmita Sen and Lara Dutta — are working together for the first time in the film. Dhawan has also roped in successful comedians like Riteish Deshmukh, Rajpal Yadav, Ranbir Shorey and Sohail Khan, besides his lucky mascot Govinda.

“Public likes to see us together. It is their unflinching love and faith which makes us successful together,” Govinda says about his partnership with comedy king Dhawan that has given hits like ‘Coolie No 1′, ‘Hero No 1′, ‘Sajan Chale Sasural’ and ‘Bade Miyan Chhote Miyan’.”We have worked in 17 films together and have been one of the most successful director-actor pairs in the film industry. We will come together for many more projects in future as well,” Dhawan said at a function here last evening to announce the start of the shooting of ‘Do Knot Disturb’.

Dhawan is also planning a sequel of ‘Partner’. The film’s leading lady Sushmita Sen said she and Govinda shared a very good chemistry onscreen and is enjoying shooting together again. “Shooting with Chi Chi (Govinda) is always fun. He is a great prankster,” she says.Govinda, who is also a Congress MP, had kept himself away from films in recent years barring a few roles and a stint in a television quiz show which did not meet with much success. He, however, found favour with viewers with ‘Partner’, co-starring Salman Khan, Lara Dutta and Katrina Kaif.

“I am making up for the three years that I lost not doing films. I am balancing my film career now.” he says when asked about his disappearance from the silverscreen. Govinda now admits that his decision to keep away from films was a mistake.”I was nervous for the first shot for ‘Partner’. I became normal only after the second shot,” he says. When asked about his opinion about the latest debutantes from the film fraternity — Harman Baweja, Imran Khan and Sikander Kher, Govinda comes up with a politically correct answer, “I think all of them are very good, talented and hard-working youngsters.”

“They work hard and are very professional in their life. They don’t party and survive on boiled food to maintain a good physique,” he quips. With Shah Rukh Khan making six-pack-abs a new fashion in film industry, will Govinda ever hit the gym to tone down?”It is very difficult to do, but why not? We are actors and if a role demands something like that I will definitely try it,” he says. Riteish Deshmukh, who had made a name with comedies like ‘Apna Sapna Money Money’, ‘Masti’ and ‘Malamal Weekly’, has teamed up with Dhawan for the first time.

“I had worked in some very good comedies and working with Dhawan completes the circle.” When asked about him being touted as the Govinda of the present generation, Deshmukh says “It is a great complement for me to be compared with someone like him.”

After Shahrukh and Salman it is the Sen-sational Sush, who will make her TV debut in a new reality show on channel ‘Colors’. Sushmita will be co-judging the show with Pakistani ex-cricketer, the very handsome Wasim Akram; the show will be produced by UTV.

The dance reality show is a unique one as it will have six couples – six actresses with six cricketers.Sush is currently busy with her home production ‘Rani Laxmibai’ and sources say that she was a little low on cash to fund her big budget movie and hence, she decided to take the TV route.

Earlier, Shahrukh had agreed to do ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’ as he apparently wanted to pump more finance into his home production ‘Om Shanti Om’, and looks like Sush sure has taken a tip from SRK this time.

Sushmita will start shooting next month as the show is expected to go on air around mid-July, ‘Colors’ channel plans to have Akshay’s show ‘Khatron Ke Khiladi’ and Sush’s show back to back to keep audiences glued to the tube.

The success of Jodhaa Akbar seems to have triggered a new formula in Bollywood. Now every second filmmaker seems to be cashing in on the epic tales that our land is known for. After Aishwarya Rai’s portrayal as the young yet brave Jodhaa, the Bachchan bahu will be seen playing the title role in Ketan Mehta’s Rani Of Jhansi. Now, if the ex-Miss World is enacting the role of a historical character, how far can our ex-Miss Universe be? Apparently, Sushmita Sen is not only acting in but is also directing a similar project on the Rani Laxmibai.

A war has been launched now. But is it just Ash and Sush in the race? Doesn’t look like it. Grapevine suggests that Deepika Padukone and Nandana Sen are also strong contenders for the role of the brave Maratha queen in films made by Feroze Nadiadwala and a TV channel respectively. According to sources, Nadiadwala’s version of the film will focus more on the queen’s friendship with Tatya Tope, to be played by Akshay Kumar. This will also mark Akki’s first attempt doing a historical project.

Now, it’s not just Rani Laxmibai who seems to have ‘inspired’ the creative honchos in showbiz. Raj Kumar Santoshi is all set to make not one but three films based on epic tales. While one is based on Samrat Ashok, the other will be an umpteenth remake of Mahabharatha. The latter is touted as a 100 crore budget film while the former will have his favourite Ajay Devgan playing the lead role with Bipasha Basu as the female lead. His third film will be based on Ramayana with the real life couple, Ajay and Kajol playing Ram and Sita.

Like Bollywood will soon have three versions of Jhansi Ki Rani, it is bound to have three versions of Mahabharatha as well. Apparently, Bobby Bedi and Rituparno Ghosh are also intending to make films based on this mythological epic. Ghosh’s version will focus on Draupadi and he has approached the sexy Bips to play the wronged queen.

It’s apparent that a lack of original scripts in Bollywood has led to the sudden surge of historicals in the market. We wonder what the filmmakers plan to come up with once they run out of epic tales as well.

Sushmita Sen is on a man hunt for her new movie.

Her maiden venture has run into several setbacks and the actress is now turning to close friend Salman Khan with the thought of casting him for the role of Nanasaheb Peshwa in her Jhansi Ki Rani Laxmibai.Sushmita feels the role is very prominent and Salman fits the bill. Hence she is in talks with the actor about the same. Salman has liked the character and he is quite thrilled about the role.“Although Salman is yet to sign on the dotted line, he is looking forward to playing a historical icon like Nanasaheb Peshwa. He will have a completely different look for which he is growing his hair.” says a friend close to the actor.

Sushmita is looking forward to sign some more biggies for other prominent characters of the film. Earlier she had approached Akshay Kumar for the role of Tatya Tope. It is also believed that Sushmita had offered a prominent character to Shah Rukh Khan too, but the Badshah refused it due to date problems. It can be recalled that before this Salman was offered to etch out the historic character of Bajiroa by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. He was also the first choice for Akbar in Ashutosh Govarikar’s historial love story Jodha Akbar. But this time it seems that Salman might take up this offer seriously.
